Dimensional Dilemma is a 3D puzzle game, and my largest project to date. It is inspired by other puzzle games like Stephen’s Sausage Roll, Recursed, and Portal.

Most traditional puzzle games are two-dimensional. I’ve always appreciated puzzles growing up, and I wanted to branch out into three-dimensional games at the time. I noticed that the only true 3D “puzzle” game I could think of was Portal, and saw potential for more games like it. However, I had little experience with building a game world and story, and much more experience with designing gameplay elements and levels.

While Dimensional Dilemma seems a lot like Portal, especially in the opening area, it draws much more inspiration from the 2D puzzle games I’ve played in recent years. I love the magic of discovering a new tool, or method of interacting with the game world, and quite a number of puzzles in there are intended to manufacture that feeling.
